SAN FRANCISCO VETERINARY SPECIALISTS (SFVS) OPENS NEW SERVICE TO ENHANCE POST-SURGICAL LIGAMENT REPAIR
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Francisco, California (January 21, 2008) — As reported in the Wall Street Journal (April 11, 2006), cruciate-ligament repairs are the most common surgical procedures for injured or diseased dogs. A relatively new technique, called tibial plateau leveling osteotomy, or TPLO, involves breaking and resetting the tibia, the long bone below the knee, in such a way as to obviate the need for a cruciate ligament.
Physical rehabilitation can facilitate the recovery process by reducing the resulting swelling and inflammation, as well controlling pain and improving land biomechanics according to SFVS surgeon Phillip Watt, BVSc, MACVSc, FACDVs.
The SFVS Canine Rehabilitation Service will be staffed by Kristen Hagler, BS, RVT, CCRP. The service will commence operation on January 31, 2008. For more information about the service or to refer a patient contact:
