Who is a veterinary specialist?

A board-certified veterinary specialist has completed up to 12 years of college education and training. San Francisco Veterinary Specialists has numerous board-certified specialists on staff. Each graduated from a four-year veterinary program and then completed an additional four years of training in an internship and residency program. To become board-certified, these candidates must also pass rigorous training and testing requirements.

 

Can SFVS be my pet’s regular veterinary clinic?

No, our practice only provides specialty and emergency services. To most effectively manage your pet's health, San Francisco Veterinary Specialists works directly with your regular veterinarian on a referral basis.

However, our Holistic and Integrative Services Department does offer general wellness and preventive care visits for pets. If you would like to learn more, contact our client service representatives at (415) 401-9200.

 

Will my regular veterinarian be updated on what happens at SFVS?

The partnership between you, your veterinarian and our medical team helps ensure the most comprehensive care possible for your pet. Our team of doctors keeps both you and your veterinarian updated on your pet's condition.

 

How do I know if my pet needs to come in through Emergency?

You should have your pet examined by a veterinarian if you feel the pet is in pain or significant discomfort. Other problems that could warrant an examination include sudden increases or decreases in thirst and urination, or ongoing vomiting and diarrhea. You are the best judge of your pet’s condition since you will be able to pick up on subtle signs that others would miss. How much does it cost to see a doctor through Emergency Services?

The exam fee for emergencies is $87. This does not include any diagnostic testing, medications or other services that may be needed. Your doctor will provide you with a treatment plan and cost estimate after examining your pet.

 

What is your payment policy?

Payment is expected at the time services are provided. We accept cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and CareCredit.

A deposit may be required if your pet is staying at the hospital for evaluation or treatments.
