Pet Loss & Grief Support
The sadness we feel when losing a beloved pet is a very real emotion, and everyone deals with the loss in his or her own way. For some people, the grieving process occurs quickly. For others, adjusting to the loss is much more difficult, and they need additional help to overcome their grief. Following are some grief support resources:
UC Davis Pet Loss Hotline — (800) 565-1525
Hours: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. PST, Monday-Friday
Hotline staff are available simply to listen, to help you sort through emotions or questions you may have, or to help you find support in your geographical area. They also have supportive materials they can send to you, free of charge.
The San Francisco SPCA Pet Loss Support Group
Although surveys show that most people consider their pets members of the family, pet owners often feel isolated and misunderstood when coping with the death of a cherished animal companion. Recognizing the need to provide bereaved pet owners with critical support, The San Francisco SPCA continues to offer ongoing Pet Loss Support Groups.
